      Producer Information

Weingut Schloss Lieser is a German wine estate situated in the village of Lieser in the Mosel region. The estate cultivates 13 hectares (32 acres) of vineyards planted exclusively to Riesling. The estate includes plots in several Grosses Gewächs and Erste Lage classified vineyards, including Lieser Niederberg Helden and Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr. The vineyards are situated on entirely south- or southwest-facing slopes of typically slate soils on the banks of the Mosel river. This unique combination of location and soil supplies a mild mesoclimate and correspondingly long growing season whereby the slate soils absorb the sun's heat and the river acts as a reflector of the sun's rays to produce fine and fruity Riesling wines. Schloss Lieser's wines cover the spectrum from sweet to dry, with Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese and Auslese Goldkapsel, as well as the dry Grosses Gewächs and Erste Lage classified Riesling wines. Grapes are hand-harvested and slowly fermented in the presence of natural yeasts at cool temperatures. As soon as the desired residual sugar level is obtained, the wines are decanted and separated from the yeast. The winery was first established in 1904. It suffered a period of decline in the 1970s before it was acquired in 1992 by Thomas Haag, who raised the estate's status back to its previous standing as one of the top Riesling wine estates in Germany.
