      Distillery Information

Xanadu Wines is a West Australian winery established shortly after the first commercial wine production in Margaret River. It produces a collection of wine at various price points from a number of different grape varieties but is most often associated with Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The original estate property has some 65 hectares (161 acres) under vine, but the winery now has three significant vineyards in Margaret River. The first is the 17ha (42 acre) Lagan Estate vineyard, planted in 1977 with the founding of the winery. Initial plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sémillon have been followed with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It is the main source of fruit for the Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay which comes from the first Chardonnay vines planted in 1981. A second vineyard, Stevens Road, was planted in 1989 a short distance from the winery within the sub region of Wallcliffe. It has the most varied plantings, which include the mainstay grapes of the winery as well as Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot, Shiraz, Graciano and Muscadelle. The total area under vine at Stevens Road is 24ha (59 acres). The most recent vineyard is Boodjidup Estate, planted in 1999. It includes 23ha (57 acres) of Cabernet Sauvignon used for the reserve and premium wines as well as further plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Shiraz for a total of 47ha (116 acres). It was founded in 1977 by Dr John Lagan and, in 2005, was bought by the Rathbone family, which own a handful of other Australian wine estates. Winemaker Glenn Goodall has been apart of the company since 1999.
