Nose: The seaside meets barbequed peaches! Big tropical fruits, stone, fruit and of course peat.
Palate: Brioche, ripe stone fruits, peat and of course a touch of salinity.
Finish: The fruit gives way to peat which eventually softens to expose oak and mellow spice.
Distillery Information
In Gaelic Caol Ila means “Sound of Islay”. Hector Henderson founded the distillery in 1846 near Port Askaig in a remote cove on Islay. The water that the distillery uses is from Loch nam Ban (Torrabolls Loch). Caol Ila is the "workhorse of Islay". It is by far the largest distillery on the island and the vast majority of its output is used in blending, particularly in Johnnie Walker and Bell’s. However Diageo now promotes Caol Ila as a standalone single malt with Special Release bottlings (including unpeated versions). There is also a wide range of bottles available from independent bottlers.
