Bottled by La Maison du Whisky under their “Ex Libris” label. It is a small blend of 40-year-old whiskies distilled in 1982 by JP Wiser’s in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. These are corn whiskies aged in Speyside casks married with a small percentage of rye whiskey matured in quarter casks that previously held peated Scotch Whisky.

JP Wiser’s Ex-Libris The Apprenticeship Antipodes 1982 40 Year Old Blended Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet vanilla cream, milk chocolate, leaves, light flower fragrance, a little berry jam.

Palate: Very warm taste, poor control of alcohol stimulation, very hot, sweet maple syrup, green pepper, leather, sweet cream, lime sugar, raisins, orange cream sugar, ice cream, nuts mixed with milk chocolate, obvious woodiness, ending with some black fruit aroma.

Finish: Very long, chocolate, vanilla cream, ice cream, obvious bitter almond flavor, nuts, butter cookie.

Distillery Information

In 1857, Wiser began running the Charles Payne Distillery and Farm in Prescott, Ontario, which was owned by his uncle, Charles Egert, and his uncle's business partner, Amos Averell. Five years after starting as manager of the distillery, Wiser bought out Egert and Averell to become its sole owner.
