Origin: Wales

Distillery: Penderyn

Penderyn The Village is finished in Amarone casks and released to mark the 2026 centenary of Portmeirion. The surreal Italianate village on the North Wales coast lends more than a name here. This is a whisky that leans into elegance, colour and gentle indulgence, with Penderyn’s clean, fruity house style picking up richness and structure from the wine finish.

Nose: Ripe red fruit, honeyed malt and soft oak spice, followed by vanilla, cocoa powder and a light floral lift.

Palate: Smooth and rounded with red berries, plum compote, gentle baking spice and a mellow, honeyed sweetness.

Finish: Candied fruit, spiced oak and a subtle grip of grape tannin lingering at the edges.

Distillery Information

Penderyn is a Welsh distillery and whisky brand, known for its award-winning single malt whisky. The Penderyn distillery is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, in the historic village of Penderyn. It's whisky is made using the traditional pot still method, and is matured in ex-bourbon barrels. Penderyn also produces a peated single malt whisky, which is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in Islay peated whisky barrels. Penderyn has won numerous awards for its whiskies, including Gold medals at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, and the World Whisky Awards. There is some evidence that the Welsh practised distillation as early as the fourth century. Allegedly, Reaullt Hir distilled on Bardsey Island around this time. The early drink was distilled from barley, yeast and honey. The Welsh Whisky Company was founded in 1998 and the first spirit ran from the stills of the Penderyn Distillery in September of 2000. The locality is rather beautiful, sitting in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The first whisky was launched on St David’s Day, 1st March 2004. The wash is brought in from S A Brain & Co, a beer brewer. The standard bottling is matured in Evan Williams and Jack Daniel’s whiskey casks and finished in Madeira casks. There have been more recent releases, a Sherry Wood and a peated offering.
